Features of Our School-based English Curriculum

1. Learn to read, Read to learn
  • Different modes of reading
    • We help students develop and practise their reading skills through different teaching strategies, including reading aloud, storytelling, shared reading, guided reading and home reading.
  • Phonics
    • We incorporate phonics teaching into the English curriculum to enhance students’ reading capacity. Students learn and practise phonics through short, interesting and purposeful activities.
  • Language Arts
    • We incorporate language arts teaching into the English curriculum to provide students with pleasurable learning experiences and to develop their language awareness. Students are exposed to a wide range of language arts materials including songs, rhymes, chants, poems and readers.
  • Reading Across the Curriculum(RaC)
    • We collaborate with other subjects like General Studies and Chinese to plan for particular teaching modules in senior levels. We infuse the use of graphic organisers (description, problem and solution, cause and effect, comparison) in the curriculum to help students understand ideas in non-fiction text. Students also acquired generic skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration skills, problem-solving skills and innovativeness.

2. Enjoy the fun of reading

  • Super Readers' Scheme
    • We encourage students to read English books through the Super Readers' Scheme.
  • Buddy Reading
    • We co-operate with Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School to launch the Buddy Reading Programme. We provide opportunities for our students to read with buddies from secondary school through a variety of fun reading activities.

3. Extend students’ English learning

We encourage students to participate in various extra-curricular activities to extend their English learning. Some of the activities include:
